"I have always wanted to design animal hangings, but considering the characteristics of pottery, I always worried that overly three-dimensional or realistic images—like animal limbs or wings—might be easily damaged. Until one day, I was sculpting with my six-year-old son, and we worked together to complete 'a cat with wings.' I liked this flat cat very much and suddenly felt that it seemed to solve my wearing problem. It is still a small sculpture, but much more interesting and three-dimensional than those cut out with cookie cutters. This reminded me of the toy block ornaments collected at home. Their edges are polished smooth and flat. Holding them in hand feels rustic and clumsy, yet full of the warmth of wood. So, making a set of small animal sculptures like block ornaments."
