Ash Thorp
Ash Thorp's visionary explorations offer an augmented lens into the innermost personal workings of his creative mind. He proficiently applies a wide range of digital techniques – 3D modeling, sculpting, texturing – to construct the most hyperrealist animations and renders of art. The line of reality is effectively blurred in his work, leaving us perplexed, and in a state of wonder - unable to answer whether we're looking at something physically real or computer generated.
The artwork originates from my abundant curiosities and attempt at gaining a deeper understanding of the world around me. It is an avenue of healing, a place I can retreat to, have complete control of, and exist most comfortably within.
- Ash Thorp
Ash Thorp first gained notoriety early in his career for his creative contributions to numerous high profile feature films, such as Ender's Game, Assassin's Creed, and Ghost in the Shell. As his career flourished, Thorp began to dedicate more time away from the mainstream media to focus on his passion for creating exclusively crafted, digitally rendered works of art.
TRLab Notes
Ash Thorp's 3D art often astounds and perplexes his audience. The term visionary shouldn't be used lightly, yet Thorp encapsulates this definition with no objections. His place among the most thought-provoking and imaginative artists in our current day is resoundingly clear.
Outside of his lauded commercial studio practice, this artwork conveys a more intimate elaboration of his thesis on human evolution. Thorp's renderings are precise and laborious; the details are obsessively depicted and blur the boundaries of what we might think is real. We are left questioning if what we're looking at actually exists in the physical realm.
