As you journey through the experience, there will be opportunities along the way to unlock access to the Foundation. This access will come in the form of unique rewards, invitations to intimate gatherings, and the ability to acquire NFT artwork.

Early Edge

There are two paths to The Calder Question: Early Edge and Public Access. Due to the unique mechanics of the experience, there will not be a traditional allowlist. Instead, a lucky few will receive an Early Edge spot, which grants priority access and additional benefits to Calder fans, arts enthusiasts, and members of the TRLab community. Check out our community announcements on Discord and Twitter for more information.

Phase 1: The Calder Archives, October 6 - October 21

• On October 6 at 1:00 PM ET, Participants can access the Seasonal Calder Archives on calderquestion.trlab.com.
  • Connect your Cryptocurrency wallet to save and track your progress.

Phase 2: Test Your Knowledge, October 21 - October 25

• On October 21 at 10:00 AM ET, participants with either Early Edge or Public Access may begin the quiz.
  • The quiz autosaves your progress up to the last question you complete.
  • You may return to the Calder Archives at any point during the quiz.
• Early Edge: Early Edge will grant you access to an abridged quiz and priority access to mint one Nonspace NFT upon completing the quiz. Return on October 28 to see your quiz results.
• Public Access: Public Access will grant you access to the quiz with one additional open-ended question. Return on October 28 at 10:00 AM ET to see your quiz results and learn if you are eligible to mint a Nonspace NFT.
• The quiz period is 4 days and concludes on October 25 at 11:59 PM ET.

Phase 3: The Mint, October 21 - November 15

• Those who pass the quiz will be eligible to mint one free Nonspace NFT, an integral part of The Calder Question. Gas fees will apply. Learn about gas fees here.
• At the point of minting, all Nonspace NFTs will appear in a Blank (unrevealed) state.
• Early Edge: Early Edge grants priority access to mint one Nonspace NFT upon completing the quiz. 1,000 Nonspace NFTs will be reserved for Early Edge participants. If the reserve runs out, you may still take the Public quiz to test your knowledge.
  • The Early Edge Minting will remain open while supplies last, or until October 25 at 11:59 PM ET.
• Public Access: Public Access grants the ability to mint a Nonspace NFT pending quiz results. Return on October 28 to learn whether you have received a passing score and are eligible to mint.
  • The Public Access Minting period will remain open while supplies last, or until November 15 at 10:00 AM ET.

• If you missed the mint for Early Edge or the score cutoff as a Public Access participant, you may either acquire a Nonspace NFT on the secondary market OR join us for Season 2.

Phase 4: Assemble Nonspace NFTs, October 31 - November 15

• Part 1, The Reveal: On October 31 at 10:00 AM ET, Blank Nonspace NFTs will refresh and reveal an element of a Calder mobile—a wire, a sheet of metal, a sketch, and more—just like a puzzle piece.
  • The revealed state is randomized so there is no way to guarantee what you will see post-reveal. You must now answer the question: which mobile does my Nonspace NFT belong to?
  • Season 1 will have 5 NFT artworks based on 5 different Calder mobiles. Each artwork consists of 5 Nonspace NFTs for you to assemble correctly.
• Part 2 - Assembling your Nonspace NFTs: Starting on October 31 at 10:00 AM ET, use your Nonspace NFT as one piece of the puzzle. You may now assemble a group of all five elements that make up a Calder mobile. To do so, you may join forces with other participants to form a group.
  • Upon entering the Assembly phase, there will be two options to get started with assembly:

Option 1: Create a Group

• Select "Create a Group".
• First, carefully study the Nonspace NFT that you hold. Decide which 1 out of the 5 Calder mobiles you believe that your Nonspace NFT belongs to and select that artwork as the "Target Artwork" for step 2.
• Next, select your Nonspace NFT that you wish to upload to your group.
  • Note: You may upload multiple Nonspace NFTs per group. To do so, simply select more than one Nonspace NFT in the upload pop-up when prompted.
• Choose if you would like to make your group PUBLIC or PRIVATE.
  • Public groups are visible to all participants on the discovery page and anyone can join.
  • Private groups are also visible on the discovery page but are not open to the public. You may invite others to join a private group with the unique URL provided upon confirmation. If you do not have a private group's URL, then you will not be able to upload a Nonspace NFT and assemble with that group. This is the only way to access a private group.
• The site will generate an ID and URL for your group so you can share it with friends (using the "Promote my group" button) to add in the missing Nonspace NFTs.
• Once your group has correctly submitted all 5 Nonspace NFTs (that belong to the same Calder mobile), the site will auto-submit your group as a complete assembly. Only then can you move on to the next phase.

Option 2: Explore existing groups

• First, carefully study the Nonspace NFT that you hold. Decide which 1 out of the 5 Calder mobiles you believe that your Nonspace NFT belongs to.
• Browse the group listing for public groups within the mobile that you feel your Nonspace NFT belongs to.
• Join the group and upload your Nonspace NFT.
• Once your group has correctly identified all 5 Nonspace NFTs that belong to that Calder mobile, you will have the opportunity to unlock the target artwork.
• The website will auto-submit your group as a complete assembly once the 5th Nonspace NFT is uploaded. Only then can you move on to the next phase.

The ground rules:

• Participants may create and join existing groups at any time. As soon as you upload your Nonspace NFT to one group, you will automatically quit any existing group that you have previously joined.
• If you upload the incorrect Nonspace NFT, your nonspace NFT will "freeze" for 1 hour. You will NOT be able to join another group during this time.
  • During the freeze period, you may return to the Calder Archives to review where you went wrong and study your Nonspace NFT.
  • The only participant affected by the freeze period is the NFT holder. Other group members will not be impacted by incorrect uploads once they have successfully uploaded their own NFT to their group.
• If you upload the same Nonspace NFT as another participant to the same group, then the first participant who uploads successfully will claim the spot.
• You may choose to purchase additional Nonspace NFTs on the secondary market.
• Assembly begins on October 31 at 10:00 AM ET and will conclude on November 15 at 10:00 AM ET.
• If you assemble correctly, you unlock access to acquire 1 of the 5 artworks for $8,000. This is a 50% discount from the public sale price. The discount is valid while supplies last, or until November 15 at 10 AM ET.

Upon completing Assembly, participants unlock the opportunity to claim a variety of rewards at the end of the season like The Calder Question merchandise, Calder Foundation rare gifts, and invitations to intimate gatherings. These rewards will be fully revealed on November 15.

Phase 5: Acquire Artworks

The five NFTs will be offered to The Calder Question participants at the conclusion of the three-week “Mobiles” experience. Starting on October 31 each artwork will be sold for $8,000 USD each in the presale and in an edition size of just 32 per artwork. In keeping with the educational and art historical mission of The Calder Question, participants who engage with the challenges and activities of the journey will be given a significant advantage at sale time; any remaining NFTs will be available for purchase for $16,000 USD each starting November 3.

Acquire Artwork During the Presale Period

• Paying with Cryptocurrency
  • If you wish to purchase the artwork with cryptocurrency, you will be directed to our checkout page where you can add your artwork to your cryptocurrency wallet.
• Paying with Credit Card
  • If you wish to purchase the artwork via credit card, then you may do so through our "Pay with Credit Card" option at checkout.
    • For this option, we have partnered with the digital platform MoonPay to provide a seamless checkout experience for those interested in acquiring artwork without purchasing Ethereum.
  • For help with checkout, please email support@trlab.com and a team member will get back to you within 3-4 hours of the same business day (9 AM - 6 PM ET).
• The public sale period will start on November 3 at 10:00 AM ET. If there are artworks still available from the presale, then all remaining editions will be available to acquire at $16,000 each. If the artworks are sold out during presale, then there will not be a public sale.

Acquire Artwork During the Public Sale Period

• The full price for a Season 1 artwork is $16,000 USD and will be available on the "Acquire" page.
• You will be able to add any Season 1 NFT artwork to your wallet that you wish to collect at this point (even artwork that you haven't unlocked through assembly!)
  • You may purchase using a Cryptocurrency wallet or a credit card.
  • Note: beware of network congestion and gas wars. Please read this article for more information.
• There are 160 total available artworks this season. 40 limited editions will be reserved by the Calder Foundation, TRLab, and Raoul Marks.

By embarking on this journey with TRLab and the Calder Foundation, your Nonspace NFTs represent your dedication. To reward those most engaged and most dedicated, TRLab offers the opportunity to gain access to the Calder Foundation like never before.

Nonspace NFT

Before the start of the next season, your Nonspace NFT will return to its Blank (unrevealed) state. At the beginning of the next season, it will automatically reveal a new element.

Rewards Snapshot

TRCABs and How to Claim them: (total: 7)

• The Calder Question aims to reward everyone who is excited to learn more about Calder. Because of this, you will notice several different moments to claim a TRCAB.
• TRCABs (TRLab On-Chain Attendance Badge), in a nutshell, are collectible badges that prove evidence of your learning progress. Think of them as patches for your letterman jacket or magnets for your fridge. Collect them to show off your achievements.
• These tokens can be claimed using your Ethereum address and are delivered to your wallet on the Polygon (MATIC) Network. TRCABs will appear in your profile under "My Rewards" in the Account section as well as in your wallet or OpenSea profile page. If your TRCABs do not show in your profile page on OpenSea, they may be hidden. To unhide them, you must toggle to the "Hidden" tab (under “More”) and select the skewer menu and "Unhide" from your profile.
